Each year a new Captain Billy is selected to sail the Blackhawk and the Krewe into uncharted seas. The new Billy is selected by the current Captain after receiving the secret nominations from a committee of the last seven Billys. The new Billy remains a secret for the next several months as he prepares for his year. He has many decisions to make, he will choose the colors, and create a logo and theme to represent his vision for the year.

Clyde and Karen Jelinek

Karen and Clyde Jelinek moved from the rocky cold beaches of the Emerald City Seattle to the white warm sands of the Emerald Coast in 2009. Clyde was an Air Force brat and grew up around the world before homesteading in Washington.  Karen was born in Seattle, WA and raised in Washington. She worked for Boeing while in Washington and currently works for Walton County. He has been working for the same company since dinosaurs existed and is currently a Senior Engineering Manager. Clyde and Karen met in 1978 when Clyde was hired by Karen’s dad to buck hay on their family farm in Monroe, WA.  They are true high school sweethearts and will celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary on August 8th, 2019.  They have three successful “adult” children.  Danielle, Derek and Lauren. Danielle lives in Washington with her husband Aaron, and has followed proudly in the footsteps of both of her grandmothers as a Registered Nurse. Derek is a graduate of the USAFA and the Air Force Institute of Technology and works as an engineer while serving as a Captain in the Air Force. The youngest daughter, Lauren, graduated the USNA and is a registered badass pilot. She’s the worlds greatest mailman, flying as a Naval Aviator (pilot for the simple folk), and launches and recovers on aircraft carriers worldwide.  We are happy to call Fort Walton Beach and the Billy Bowlegs Krewe our new home and miss our Pacific Northwest family and friends.

Robert and Jeanne Naini

Robert and Jeanne Naini moved from Arlington, TX to the Emerald Coast in 2017 to be closer to family and longtime friends... and the beach ain't bad. They recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary, they do not have children but they do have two dogs that they raised from pups. Robert Naini is a construction materials consultant and real estate investor from Dallas, TX. He completed his mechanical engineering degree and MBA at the University of Texas at Arlington and about 5 years ago he started two companies that he manages today, Spray Foam Advisor and 9E Investments. In Robert's free time he enjoys movies, board games with friends and family, and water activities. He is also an avid disc golfer and from time to time you might see him at a poker or craps table. Jeanne Naini, formerly Jeanne Pitts, was born and raised in Fort Walton Beach, FL, is an alumni of Choctawhatchee High School and she completed her degree in psychology at the University of Southern Miss. Jeanne divides her time between working at Sam's Club part-time and managing her online sales and arts & crafts business, Wax Impressions. She finds the greatest joy in bargain hunting and adventurous vacations, like snow skiing, zip lining and white-water rafting.

Jim and Barry Johnson

Jim Johnson was born into a military family and served in the Air Force for over 20 years, retiring in 1999, He earned his MBA specializing in financial management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.  His last assignment was Eglin and he has lived in the area since 1995. His favorite pastime is cooking with wine, jazz and big knives. Barry Johnson began her life as the daughter of an Air Force pilot. She graduated from FSU with a double major in French and Spanish and later earned a Master’s degree from FAU in Clinical Social Work. She is a retired foreign language instructor and currently serves on the Board of the Mental Health Association. Her parents were members of Bowlegs in the 70’s and 80’s. Their paths eventually crossed when they met in 2013. They were married in 2015 and they share five children (Katey, Danielle, Taylor, Rebecca and Alex) and soon to be eight grandchildren. They love to travel and she loves to entertain because Jim does all the cooking.

David Densmore and Cashen Moore

(Cashen Moore is David Densmore’s date for this Honor Guard) David Densmore was born in fort Walton beach and graduated from Choctawhatchee high school. After high school David attended the university of Mississippi where he played football. After graduation from Ole Miss he lived in Boston and then Nashville prior to moving back to the area to work at Morgan Stanley in Destin. When not working he loves being on the water whether fishing or just hanging out at Crab Island. He attends as many Ole Miss games as possible every fall. Cashen Moore is the chief operating officer at Cashs Liquors. If you dont recognize her from the billboards, she grew up on Okaloosa Island and attended school locally in Fort Walton until she moved to live with her mother in Cullman, AL. She graduated Cullman High School and went on to attend Auburn University. As a communication major, she graduated Auburn in 2011. Her father, Cash Moore, has been in the liquor business in Northwest Florida for over fifty years. Knowing she wanted to be a part of her dad's company, she moved to Tampa, FL and worked for a liquor distributor for about a year before deciding to move home to Destin, FL. She has now been working with her father in the corporate office for the past seven years helping run their twelve liquor stores, bars, and nightclub. She has two children, Kaleesi (5) and Cash (3) that are now featured on all of the advertising!

Brad and Krista Bowman

Brad Bowman is from a small town in Central Illinois and Krista is a Niceville High School graduate.  After High School Krista moved to Ft. Worth Texas for a short time and from there she moved to Hawaii. Brad enlisted in the United States Marine Corps his senior year and in 1987, after his stint in the Marine Corps, he met Krista in Waikiki, Hawaii. She was working for American Hawaii Cruises at the time when Brad decided to go to work on board the ships as well. After 4 great years of working on board and attending school in Hawaii, they decided it was time to move back to the mainland and get serious. The Bowmans were both attending college in Illinois when they decided to open their first barbecue restaurant in 1995. Frequently visiting Krista's parents in this area, the Bowmans and their two boys made the big move to Florida in 2012, opening Hickory River Smokehouse in Mary Esther, their 8th restaurant. Their oldest son Brady is on active-duty in the United States Air Force with the 605th AMXS, at McGuire AFB while attending Embry Riddle and their youngest son Jesse is a United States Air Force Reservist with the 556 RHS on Hurlburt Field while attending college at University of West Florida. Brad is a consummate cook and loves entertaining his friends with culinary delights while Krista is an avid horse trainer and dog whisperer.

Jon David and Courtney Simpson

Jon David was born and raised in Shalimar. He attended Choctawhatchee High School, class of 1997, and Auburn University, class of 2001. During his time at Auburn, Jon David was the ambassador of spirit and goodwill as Auburn’s costumed tiger mascot, “Aubie.” Jon David received his law degree from the University of Florida in 2004 and is currently the owner of Simpson Law Firm PA, where he specializes in the areas of personal injury law/civil trial. Courtney grew up in Mobile, Alabama and is also a graduate of Auburn University, class of 2002, where she and Jon David first met. She received her Master’s degree from UCF in 2004 and is currently the owner of Courtney Simpson State Farm Insurance Agency. Jon David is the son of David and Sally Simpson, Honor Guard XXIX. Jon David and Courtney have been members of the Krewe of Bowlegs since 2012 and also served on Honor Guard LIX with Captain Don Hutson. Jon David and Courtney reside in Shalimar. They have one daughter, Sara Beth (6) and two sons, Mac (4) and Joseph (1) and attend Beachside Community Church.

Mark and Mollie Grindland

Mark and Mollie Grindland have been in Bowlegs for 8 years and married for 20 years. They are honored to be chosen to make their 2nd top 26 Bowlegs appearance. They have 3 children Jesse 30, Lakin 17, who is an outgoing Bowlegs Princess and Skylar who is 14. They also have a granddaughter, Sierra Burch who is 4 years old. They currently live in Navarre Fl. Mark transferred from Oregon via the USAF in 1994 and currently owns a high rise window cleaning company. His hobbies are spending quality time with his family, watching and playing sports, travel, swimming and Bowlegs. Mollie is almost a FBW native; she has lived in the area since she was 5 years old. She was born in Montgomery Alabama and is a die hard Alabama football fan. She is also a stay-at-home mom, raising and educating their children. Her hobbies are watching college and pro football, travel and Bowlegs.

Keith and Trish Clark

Keith Clark, also known as Senior, grew up in Lake Blackshear, Georgia. After graduating from Americus High School, he attended Auburn University where he earned a degree in Aviation Management and was a pilot and flight instructor. After developing and building motels, shopping centers, apartments, and storage projects in Georgia, he returned to Florida where he is currently focusing on real estate development. In his spare time he enjoys boating, and hunting, and volunteering time at Alaqua Animal Refuge. Trish grew up in Pensacola then embarked on her lifelong love of learning. Although she started college at FSU, she ultimately graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education from awesome Auburn University. She later received masters degrees in Child Development and Counseling from Troy State and one in Administration and Supervision from UWF. She is a happily retired teacher and now spends her time singing with the Sugar Beach A Cappella Chorus, the C Waves quartet, and the chancel choir at Crosspoint Church in Niceville. Additionally she enjoys playing cards with her bridge buddies. She is a long time member and a past queen of the Ft. Walton Beach Mardi Gras Club. She also enjoys being on the water and traveling. They have called Shalimar their home since moving to the area in 1972 where they raised their children Kim and Keith and now enjoy spending time with their precious grandchildren Trent and Kyle.

Clark and Mary Reid

Clark and Mary Reid have resided in Shalimar since 1981. Clark and Mary graduated from High School in Tampa where they met. Clark graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of South Florida and earned graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas in Chemistry and the University of West Florida in Software Engineering. Mary graduated from the University of Arkansas and earned a graduate Ed. S. degree from the University of West Florida. She earned a graduate Counseling degree from Troy State University. After retiring from the Air Force after 26 years, Clark went to work for TYBRIN Corporation, a local defense contractor, and is currently consulting for Humphreys & Associates, a nationally known management consulting firm. Mary has been involved with education her entire career and is currently a school counselor at Wright Elementary School. Clark and Mary have one grown daughter, who is married and living in North Carolina.

J. Mark and Debbie Fisher

J. Mark Fisher and Debbie Fisher are long-time residents of Fort Walton Beach. They met when they were eight years old in the Panama Canal Zone while both of their parents were in the Air Force. Their parents were best friends and they vacationed together while growing up. Mark and Debbie graduated from Florida State University and have been married for over 37 years. Mark is an Estate Planning Lawyer with offices located in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Panama City. He hosted a weekly radio talk-show out of Pensacola, for over 25 years. Mark lectures on Estate Planning topics throughout Florida, and has authored three books, Estate Planning for Florida Residents, Spending Grandma’s Inheritance, and How to Administer a Florida Trust. Debbie is a Property Manager and, in addition, she is a City Ambassador for Zilis, the largest distributor of CBD Full Spectrum Hemp health products, in the nation. Mark and Debbie have three children, Blake, Bentley, and Blaire, who all graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and are all married to exceptional people. They now have 7 grandchildren. They love water sports, traveling, and entertaining, and most importantly, enjoy spending time with their growing family.

Sofia is a student at Choctawhatchee High School and is enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program. She is a member of National Honors Society, Student Council, and the Student Advisory Council representative for the Class of 2020. She is on the Varsity Tennis team.

Amanda Nicole Castleberry

Amanda attends Fort Walton Beach High School where she is in all AP and honor classes. She has played year-round volleyball for the last 8 years and hopes to continue. She has interests in attending College of Charleston, Clemson or St Augustine, FL, to pursue a career in Physical Therapy.

Daughter of Jan Manley and the granddaughter of Richard L. Manley, Captain Billy XXXIX and Mary Ann Manley.

Education and social affiliations:

She is a senior at Seacoast Collegiate High School through which she is taking classes at North West Florida State College. She is excelling at her courses and has made the President’s List at the college. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at local preschools, boxing with her friends, working in theatre technology, and doing photography.

Future Plans:

After graduating high school, Lily is planning on majoring in psych.

Trevor has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Trevor is a member of Shalimar United Methodist Church.

Future Plans:

Trevor would like to attend the Air Force Academy or Florida State University, majoring in Physics.

Jackson takes full advantage of the outdoors. You can find him either on his boat fishing, in Alabama deer, rabbit or turkey hunting, on a tractor at his Grandfather Clark’s house or skeet shooting at the local range. Besides family time and friends, he also enjoys working his part time job at Restylers Aftermarket. Jackson is a member of the Jr. ROTC program at Choctaw High School.

Future Plans:

Plans on attending college and will consider joining the military or continue his studies in wildlife management.

Bowlegs Heritage: Judith Marie is the daughter of Chris and Beck England, Honor Guard LVIII, Honor Guard LXIV, and Queen of the Krewe of Bowlegs LXV. She is the sister of Renee England, Princess LXIV, and Ann Elise England, Queen’s Sunflower Train Bearer LXIII and Queen’s Loving Daughter Train Bearer LXV. Judith Marie also served as Queen LXII, Tracy McMorrow’s, Cross Bearer.

Interesting Facts: Judith Marie is a rising 5th grader at Liza Jackson Prepatory School who loves acting, horses, photography, spending time with friends, dreaming up new businesses she hopes to open one day, and working with her Mom.

Interesting Facts: Ann Elise is a rising 4th grader at Northwest Florida Ballet Academie’. She loves dressing up in costumes, playing with dolls, building with Legos, spending time with friends and snuggling with her Mom.

Bowlegs Heritage: Son of Garrett and Erin B. Roland and great nephew to Buddy and Cindy Carter, Captain Billy LXV. Buddy and Cindy served on Honor Guard XLIII. 

Interesting Facts: CT will attend pre-K at Pleasant Home School in Andalusia, AL  this Fall. He enjoys being on our farm; riding the Polaris, going fishing, feeding the cows, riding the horses, and farming with his daddy.  CT also enjoys watching dinosaur movies, playing with LEGO’s, and most of all swimming at the beach. 

Jacob (“Jake”) Ryan Bunnell

Blumer, Queen of Bowlegs XXXVII, and Princess for Captain Billy Bowlegs XL, Scotty Foster and Queen of Bowlegs XL, Cissy Brown. Jake is the Grandson of Dr. Philip W. Interesting Facts: Blakely is a rising Plew Elementary School kindergartner. Loves crafting, swimming, playing softball, soccer, tumbling, dancing, Disney, playing with her cousins, shopping and spending time with her family.

Rustin Jayce Clarno

Bowlegs Heritage: Rustin is the son of Stephen and Holly Clarno, Honor Guard LXII. He is the great grandson of  the late Edward and Dorothy Clarno, Honor Guard XII.

Burkett and Queen, Kathleen P. Dlabal. Great Grandson to late Frederick Carter and Phyllis Carter – both were on several Honor Guards to include Captain Billy Malcom Crotzer and “Boota” Walker XII, Captain Billy Chris A. Interesting Facts: Caiden is 4 years old and will be in VPK this coming year. He loves to play with his super heroes and build with Legos. He is very excited to be a pirate for this year's Krewe.

Carly Elizabeth Parker

Duty: First Mistress’ Perfume Bottle Bearer

Bowlegs Heritage: Carly is the Daughter of Alan and Polly Parker who served on Honor Guard 59, Sister of Alex Parker, Children of the Court 61, and JT Parker, Privateer 62.

Interesting facts: Rising sixth grader at Liza Jackson Preparatory School. Loves composing and performing dance and gymnastics. Loves art and creative writing.

Darrington Gates Marshall (he primarily goes by “Gates” or the nickname bestowed upon him by Captain Billy LIII Brock Fisher of “Boomer” )

Duty: First Mate’s Flight Helmet Bearer

Bowlegs Heritage: Gates is the son of Jason and Kay Marshall of Lilburn, GA. He is the grandson of Captain Billy LV, Bruce Marshall, and Debbie Marshall. Bruce and Debbie were the First Mate and Mistress for Captain Billy LIII Brock Fisher and served on the Honor Guard for Captain Billy XLV, Dick Roberts.

Interesting Facts: Rising 8th grader at Trickum Middle School in Lilburn, GA with straight A’s. Gates loves being outdoors! He is an avid snow skier of double black diamonds, enjoys fishing, and hiking Colorado’s 14’ers in the summer. Gates sleeps, eats and breathes soccer and is the high scorer on his team.

Harrison Bryce Gosnell

Duty: First Mate’s Commando Hat Bearer

Bowlegs Heritage:  Harrison is the son of Andrew and Mandi Gosnell, Honor Guard LX.  Mandi was a Princess for Captain Billy XLI, Chuck Ingram and Queen Marie Johnson; and served as a Train Bearer for Queen XXXVII, Jeannie Blumer.  Harrison is the grandson of Jim and Jo Brechin who served on the Honor Guard for Captain Billy XXXVI, Herb Tinsley and Queen Carlee Foster.

Interesting Facts:  Will begin VPK in August.  Harrison likes playing basketball, soccer, t-ball, and football, building Legos, and spending time with his family and friends.  He also enjoys going to Disney World and Auburn football and basketball games. War Eagle!

Lexi Blumer

Duty: Captain’s Shell Bearer

Bowlegs Heritage: Lexi is the daughter of Heath and Vashti Blumer, and granddaughter of Phil and Jeanie Blumer, Captain Billy 46 and Queen 37, and First Mate and First Mistress 41. 

Interesting Facts: Lexi is a rising third grader at Antioch Elementary.  She has been a Girl Scout for 3 years and enjoys softball, basketball, soccer, and riding her training horse, Dolly.  Her favorite past time hobbies include drawing, boating, and scalloping.
